Sign placement is just the beginning of tapping
into the full meaning of the Moon position. Keep in mind, we
must also look to the house placement and any aspects that are
formed. The aspects sometimes strengthen, or can become
obstructive. They can add a big emphasis to how the Moon
functions for you. As it is with the other planets, the house
your Moon is in tells what areas of life it will affect, what
is especially important and of special interest to you. The
moon being an "inner" or "id" influence, allows you to find
areas that you can tune into to gain inner peace, it is one of
the ways we all gather up some Zen.
In relationships people that share a Moon link will feel a
kinship; an invisible but strong bond to each other. The link
is seen when one has their Moon in the same sign as the other
persons Sun Sign. For example: Your partners Sun Sign is in
Pisces and you find that your Moon is situated in Pisces as
well. You both share a mutual reception; a subconscious flow
of intuitive understanding. This applies even to just friends.
There may even be many things you don't understand about each
other but this common ground still exits, your "id's" so to
speak, are in mutual agreement.
This is a great planet (satellite) to delve into the inner
self and get an idea of someone's mental and emotional patterns
that are instinctive to them. The Moon and the French symbol
of "Fleur De Lis", are a lot alike; they both reveal your
hidden "hearts desire".

UNDERSTANDING LUNAR ASTROLOGY
(Excerpted from Chapter 1, "Llewellyn's 2002 Moon Sign
Book: And Gardening Almanac")
The Moon's cycles and their correlation with
everyday life are the foundation of the Moon Sign Book. By
providing explicit tables and articles on the Moon's
influence, we hope to bring a part of this valuable
astrological knowledge within reach of everyone. Let us begin
by looking at some basic astrological principles. Everyone has
seen the Moon wax and wane through a period of approximately
twenty-nine and a half days. This circuit from New Moon to
Full Moon and back again is called the lunation cycle. The
cycle is divided into parts, called quarters or phases. The
astrological system of naming the lunar phases does not always
correspond to systems used in other almanacs and calendars. It
is therefore important to follow only the Moon Sign Book or
Llewellyn's Astrological Calendar for timing events.
FIRST QUARTER
The first quarter begins at the New Moon, when
the Sun and Moon are conjunct. (The Sun and Moon are in the
same degree of the same sign.) The Moon is not visible at
first, since it rises at the same time as the Sun. The New
Moon phase is a time for new beginnings that favor growth, the
externalization of activities, and the expansion of ideas. The
first quarter is the time of germination, emergence,
beginnings, and outwardly directed activity.
SECOND QUARTER
The second quarter begins halfway between the
New Moon and the Full Moon, when the Sun and Moon are ninety
degrees apart. This half Moon rises around noon and sets
around midnight, so it can be seen in the western sky during
the first half of the night. The second quarter is the time of
growth, development, and articulation of things that already
exist.
THIRD QUARTER
The third quarter begins at the Full Moon, when
the Sun is opposite the Moon and its full light can shine on
the full sphere of the Moon. The round Moon can be seen rising
in the east at sunset, and then rising a little later each
evening. The Full Moon stands for illumination, fulfillment,
completion, drawing inward, unrest, and emotional expressions.
The third quarter is a time of maturity, fruition, and the
assumption of the full form of expression.
FOURTH QUARTER
The fourth quarter begins about halfway between
the Full Moon and New Moon, when the Sun and Moon are again at
ninety degrees, or square. This decreasing Moon rises at
midnight, and can be seen in the east during the last half of
the night, reaching the overhead position just about as the
Sun rises. The fourth quarter is a time of disintegration,
drawing back for reorganization, and for reflection.
